The Winter Olympic Games 2010-Vancouver Canada

The Winter Olympic Mascots in Vancouver

The 2010 Winter Olympic Games opened Friday night in Vancouver, British Columbia with a rousing Opening Ceremony that didn´t quite match the pegeantry of Beijing, but did a fine job of capturing the essence of Canada. Thanks for a fantastic opening, to all guests, artists & performers, athletes, and to Canada.

1. Vancouver organizers had planned for four Olympic cauldrons to be lit by Canada´s most famous athletes, but a mechanical error prevented one of the massive torches from rising from the floor of British Columbia Place.

2. Tributes with one minute silence on the opening ceremony to a 21 year old Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili, who died Friday morning during a practice run at Whistler, February 12, 2010, right before the winter olympic ceremony.

3. "Peaks of endeavor". The snowboarders, speedskaters and the skiers descended from the roof of BC Place on wires in a stirring tribute to Western Canada and the Rocky Mountains.

4. The opening ceremony. The Norwegian delegates with the flag are present.

5. Honoring native Canadians.

6. The virtual floor. A terrain of ice virtually broke apart and turned the floor of BC Place into virtual oceans in which whales and salmons swam accross.

7. Warm reception for each Nation especially the home country of Nodar Kumaritashvili from Georgia with a standing ovation. He died while practicing before the opening. His team is wearing black ribbons, scarves, and on their flag.
8. Cold weather in & out of the stadium.

9. A small part of the athletes´parade in the pictures.
The Bermudans in shorts for winter olympic.

Estonias snowflake coats and floppy hats.

The Olympians from Switzerland, who paired their bright red jackets with blue jeans.

Czech delegation´s pants is also one of the most eye-catching fashion in this winter olympic.

The host country of Canada. The red mittens with Canada´s maple leaf embroidered on them are selling out in the stores in Vancouver.

10.The hosts, singers & performers, and audience are fantastic.Well known singers, Bryan Adams and Nelly Furtado on the opening ceremony in BC Place.

K. D. Lang sang well the song of Leonard Cohen´s Hallelujah.
