The Pentecost - the forgotten holiday

Norwegian people were excited about the nice weather this weekend, from Saturday afternoon to Monday May 31 - June 1, The Pentecost which is a holiday. I´m sure other countries celebrated it too. A taste of summer and people know how to enjoy it. The sunshine all over the country continues these days. But to the question, why do we celebrate Pentecost, only a few could give the rigth answer, the small kids. The Pentecost was the "unknown" holiday.
It was when the Holy Spirit showed in a form of a bright light according from the believers in one of the prominent feasts in the Christian liturgical year. When JESUS was baptized byJohn, the spirit of GOD came down as a dove. That is why baptism in a special way been linked to Pentecost. The feast is also called Whit sun, Whit sunday, Whit Sunday, Whit suntide, especially in the United Kingdom.
Pentecost is celebrated seven weeks or 50 days after Easter Sunday. Pentecost falls on the tenth day after Ascension Thursday. We often expect Pentecost as the Church´s Birthday, not the church building but the beginning of the Christian church. The picture above is from the beautiful country of the Philippines. Happy Holidays to all! At kumusta sa inyo. (:
