The botanical definition of a berry is a simple fruit produced from a single ovary, such as a grape or a tomato. The berry is the most common type of fleshy fruit in which the entire ovary wall ripens into an edible pericarp.
However, in everyday English, a berry is a term for any small edible fruit. Most berries are juicy, round or semi-oblong, brightly coloured, sweet or sour, and don't have a stone or pit, although many seeds may be present. Many berries, such as the tomato are edible, but others in the same family, such as the fruits of the deadly nightshade (Atropa belladonna and the fruits of the potato (Solanum tuberosum) are poisonous to humans. A plant that bears berries is said to be bacciferous.
In false berries, like blueberries and cranberries, the fruit is formed from other parts of the flower in addition to the ovary. Although referred to as berries in common language, aggregate fruits like raspberries are also not true berries but collections of small drupes, and accessory fruits like strawberries are formed from parts of the plant other than the ovary.

Examples of true berries include:
Grape
Tomato, and other species of the family, many of which are commercial importance, such as Capsicum, and aubergine and Wolfberry or Goji berries
Barberry (Berberis)
Currant (red, black, and white types)
Elderberry
Gooseberry
Honeysuckle: the berries of some species (called honeyberries) are edible, others are poisonous.
Mayapple
Nannyberry or sheepberry
Oregon-grape
Sea-buckthorn

Modified berries, Juicy berries
The fruit of citrus, such as the orange, kumquat and lemon, is a modified berry called a hesperidium.

Not a botanical berry
Many "berries" are not actual berries by the scientific definition, but fall into one of these categories:

Drupes are fruits produced from a single-seeded ovary or achene.
Hackberry
Acaí (Euterpe), a palm fruit native to the Amazon region.

Nut is a general term for the large, dry, oily seeds or fruit of some plants. While a wide variety of dried seeds and fruits are called nuts, only a certain number of them are considered by biologists to be true nuts. Nuts are an important source of nutrients for both humans and wildlife.
A nut is a type of seed. Nuts are both the seed and the fruit, and cannot be separated. Seeds come from fruit, and can be removed from the fruit, like almonds, cashews, walnuts, and pistachios, which were once inside fruit.
Cheese is a food consisting of proteins and fat from milk, usually the milk of cows, buffalo, goats, or sheep. It is produced by coagulation of the milk protein. Some cheeses also contain molds, either on the outer rind or throughout. Hundreds of types of cheese are produced. Herbs, spices, or wood smoke may be used as flavoring agents. The yellow to red color of many cheeses is a result of adding annatto. Cheeses are eaten both on their own and cooked in various dishes; most cheeses melt when heated. Cheese has served as a hedge against famine and is a good travel food. It is valuable for its portability, long life, and high content of fat, protein, calcium, and phosphorus. Cheese is more compact and has a longer shelf life than the milk from which it is made. Cheesemakers near a dairy region may benefit from fresher, lower-priced milk, and lower shipping costs. The long storage life of cheese allows selling it when markets are more favorable.
